I had no idea that the number one female arm wrestler in America resided right here in Jacksonville. Meet Beth Westberry. Westberry currently holds the number one title in the U.S for women competing in the World Armwrestling Federation. She is going on to represent team USA in the World Armwrestling Championship held in Veliko Turnovo, Bulgaria.

Westberry recently had a competition table set up at a Female Roller Derby event I was covering as part of my freelance work. I decided to take her on myself. Okay, let’s just say that the final results did not hedge in my favor. Okay, let’s just say that I didn’t win. Okay, let’s just say that she defeated me within a fraction of a second.

Well, it’s official: Folio Weekly has bravely placed their publication in my hands for the next week, as the edition containing my cover story debut is now circulating about town in the F.W. vans and newsstands and restaurants everywhere will soon be well stocked with the issue. I got a sneak peak of it yesterday and the fine folks at the F.W. headquarters did a magnificent job of organizing and presenting the information compiled for the piece. So everyone go out there and grab a copy and witness as my cover story cherry is popped in broad daylight in front of all of Northeast Florida, from Fort Clinch to the Matanzas Bay.

I will be out at Fuel Coffeehouse in Five Points tonight around 8 o’clock for anyone who cares to join in a discussion of the piece. I will also try to get F.W. “Money Jungle” author Shelton Hull to join me. I would love nothing more than for a few area politicians to show up as well. Just not all of them at once…bearing torches and calling for my head.
